Why I Write

Hand upon my shoulder
  
There’s a hand upon my shoulder,
there are voices in my ear.
While I grow older, ever older,
they still echo down the years.
 
There’s a hand upon my shoulder,
there are voices in my ear.
Although the trail grows colder, colder,
I still hear them, drawing near.
 
There’s a hand upon my shoulder,
there are voices in my ear.
Still the embers smoulder, smoulder:
all the fires that once burned fierce.
